Oscar-winner Peter-Christian Fueter has spent time in Europe as assistant director for drama and various opera houses, and has also worked in film in the US. Between 1966 and 1972 Peter worked his way up to Producer at Condor Film AG. From 1972 to 1998 he was part of the management and sat on the Board of this important Swiss film company, and produced national and international documentaries and art fims, but also Tv Movies and series as well of course as feature films including Journey Of by Xavier Koller together with Alfi Sinniger of Catpics, Zürich. Along with two partners, Peter founded C-Films and between 1999 and 2009 produced numerous TV movies, feature films, series and documentaries. Grounding – The Last Days Of Swissair (2006) and My Name Is Eugen (2005) are among the most successful Swiss movies, and the Swiss TV Series ran for a record-breaking seven years on Schweizer Fernsehen. PC Fueter served Swiss Film for several decades as president, member and Swiss representative for professional organisations such as the Swiss Film Producers Association (SFP), the Federal Film Commission (EFK), the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers (IQ). From 1988 to 1991, he worked with Yves Yersin on behalf of the Federal Council to produce 220 short films as part of an audio-visual exhibition for the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. In addition to the Oscar in 1991 and hundreds of awards with Condor Film, PC Fueter has received many accolades in the last decade with C-Films including two Swiss Film Awards, two Emmy Awards, one German TV-Film Award and two Bavarian Film Awards.

1. Can you give us a typical example of a Tv Movie?

Night Flight (2009), based on the tragic air collision over Lake Constance in 2002, is a typical TV movie. It is typical for a TV movie to portray a real event or an important and topical issue of national significance which provides a basis to discuss basic human questions. The story in this case is very emotional and provides wonderful roles for actors.

2. Is there a TV Movie you would have loved to have created yourself?

The Millions Game from 1970. The screenplay is written by wolfgang Menge and it’s adapted from the American short story The Prize Of Peril by Robert Sheckley. It’s about a TV show in which the candidate must avoid assassination for a week and the population is explicitly called upon to either help him, or hinder him. The movie really demonstrated the power of television, for better or worse, and in doing so not only provoked strong nation-wide reactions but also prompted a discussion about the phenomenon of television.

3. What is the future for TV Movies?

TV Movies have a broader base to aim for than films destined for the cinema screens. Feature films are generally developed to follow one of two paths – they fall either into the group of comercially minded, powerful Main-Stream productions, or into the category of smaller indie, artistic and often experimental films. This polarisation leaves a nice gap that TV Movies can fill with everything from Comedy to Drama, and Docu-drama to Fantasy.

4. Do you see emerging markets and even emerging sub-genres?
Generally all markets and sub-genres have potential for development, because the TV Movie can only survive the TV Series if it uses it’s strength – which is also it’s weakness – namely that it represents a single asset. This means it must take every opportunity to explore and use all the thematic and formal aspects of the genre to discover and test new niches in the market. Only then can the TV Movie continually conquor new slots.

5. Which show would you currently not miss for the world?
The best offerings of fiction are in strong American series, that is where the most talent and energy has been directed in recent years. The West Wing is a perfect example.
